Seeks of Literacy grad to receive national award

(Plain Press, April, 2016) Margo Hudson, a 2012 graduate of Seeds of Literacy, will be named the 2016 National Adult Learner of the Year by the Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE) at their annual conference on April 11, 2016, in Dallas, Texas.

COABE’s Adult Learner of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has overcome difficult circumstances to pursue adult learning, supported other adult learners, and demonstrated leadership within learning environments while managing adult responsibilities.

“Margo Hudson is passionate about learning,” says Bonnie Entler, Executive Director of Seeds of Literacy, an adult literacy nonprofit organization in Cleveland. “She worked diligently for 11 years to achieve her GED. Since graduating, Margo has tutored twice a week at Seeds, acting as a role model for students like herself. And she’s accomplished much, much, more. Seeds is so proud of her work.”

Hudson is a champion for the power of adult learning and has taken the time to act as an ambassador for Seeds of Literacy; collecting book and supplies for students of the program and encouraging those who can to donate to the organization. Her sparkling personality and position as a housekeeper at the United Club at Cleveland Hopkins Airport make her a favorite with customers, many of whom have heard about how her life was changed through literacy. Ms. Hudson is an avid reader and works closely with an outreach ministry that assists African-American men in her community of Cleveland.

This award was made possible by The Dollar General Literacy Foundation
